| Beware of 'bargain' floor heater kits |
Differences between Coldbuster tile heater and free form cable kits While such kits may be suitable for trades with experience, the debutant DIY is wise to invest a little more to opt for a quality and fundamentally simpler solution. The Coldbuster advantage is obvious, Colbuster kits are not free-form but 'pre-configured' meaning -
When using a 'free-form' kit one must be sure to adequately terminate and water proof each electrical connection. Installation of 'free form' kits require manually looping and sticking the cable down a pre-calculated spacing. The closer together the floor heating cables the hotter it will be, and the further apart they are the cooler it will be. Irregular cable spacing will result in hot and cold spots on the floor. 'Free-form' cable kits generally require a screed topping before the final floor finish is layed, an additional task and cost.
Installation of a Coldbuster tile heater is easy. Simply start where the thermostat location is and roll out the heater, shaping it as per the personalised diagram room layout we provide. By peeling the wax paper off the double sided tape you simply stick the heater to the floor as you move along. Larger rooms may require a combination of heaters which will all start from the same thermostat position. Installation of the floor heater is completed by unrolling and sticking down the self adhesive fibreglass mesh over the heater.

A free form cable kit is simply a heating cable supplied as one long continuous roll of wire on a spool. While the price of supply for these elements may be attractive, it can result in a blow out of labour costs for installation or worse, weak points after installation.
